Mantis Shrimp’s Shock-Absorbing Phononic Shields: Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV Engineering Faculty’s Role in New Study
Assistant Professor Meisam Asgari, from the Department of Medical Engineering at Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV, was recently recognized for his contribution to a research paper published in Science (Vol. 387, Issue 6734, pp. 659–66). The study, titled Does the Mantis Shrimp Pack a Phononic Shield? explores the impact-resistant properties of the peacock mantis shrimp’s dactyl club.

Engineering Faculty named Faculty Mentor of the Year by Florida Undergraduate Research Association
Nancy Diaz-Elsayed, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV, has been named the 2025 Faculty Mentor of the Year by the Florida Undergraduate Research Association. Hao Zheng, an associate professor in Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV's Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been awarded a $599,493 NSF grant for his innovative research on improving System-on-Chip (SoC) design validation. His work focuses on creating a communication-centric validation framework, leveraging advanced deep sequence modeling to enhance the safety, reliability, and efficiency of these critical systems.

According to U.S. News & World report, Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV’s online graduate engineering program is ranked No. 53. according to the 2025 Best Online Graduate Programs rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report. Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV’s highest-ranked program is inside the Top 20 among all public and private universities and another program improved by 24 places to break into the Top 50.

The milestone comes during Âé¶¹ÃÛÌÒAV’s first full fiscal year as a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and helps demonstrate its impact as one of the nation’s most research-intensive institutions. The new record brings the university closer to reaching its goal of securing $1 billion in annual research funding.
