Dr. Paul Sanberg to step down as Senior VP of Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV Research & Innovation

Dear Members of the Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV Community,

The growth and visibility of Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV’s research enterprise has been one of the most important contributions to the university’s upward trajectory during the past decade. Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV now ranks in the top 50 universities, public or private, for research expenditures – an impressive statistic for a university of our relative youth. We owe much of this success to Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV’s faculty and the dedicated focus of the team at Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV Research & Innovation, led by Senior Vice President Dr. Paul Sanberg since 2013.

After more than 12 years in administration and almost three decades of service to Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV, Dr. Sanberg has decided to transition from his role as Senior Vice President and focus on his research in the areas of neuroscience and brain repair.  He will also advance the continued growth and development of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame (FIHF) and the Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV Institute for Advanced Discovery & Innovation (IADI). Effective 18 January 2021, Dr. Sanberg will return to the faculty as Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair, Morsani College of Medicine. He will retain his leadership roles at the NAI, FIHF and IADI.

A national search for a new Vice President for Research & Innovation will commence during the spring. In the interim, Keith Anderson, Assistant Vice President for Research & Innovation, will serve as acting leader of Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV Research & Innovation.  Keith is a respected member of the Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV community.  He will strive to ensure that Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV’s strong momentum continues.

I wish to sincerely thank Dr. Sanberg for his extraordinary dedication to Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV research and to cultivating innovation in Florida. We wish him the best in the next chapter of his intellectual and professional journey.

Sincerely,

Steven C. Currall
President and Professor
