ST. PETERSBURG, FL – On Saturday, October 27, 2018, students, staff, and faculty from the College of Marine Science came together to help teach the St. Petersburg community about ocean acidification. (MSAC) organized an educational outreach booth at the Saturday Morning Market in downtown St. Pete with hands-on activities related to the ocean’s lowering pH and the impact this will have on the organisms who live there.
In addition, volunteers wore signs reading “Talk to Me! I’m an Oceanographer!” in order to engage in open-ended discussion about marine science. Red tide, a topic especially relevant to St. Pete, was an issue on many people’s minds. In total, the booth had over 100 visitors, all who were eager to learn a little bit more about what’s happening in their own backyard.
