Ji-Young Lee, Ph.D., MSPH, is an assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the Â鶹ÃÛÌÒAV. Dr. Lee earned both her Ph.D. in prevention science & community health as well as her MSPH at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She then completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute of Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) at Northwestern University and at the Center of Sexuality and Health Disparities at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Lee’s training and research expertise broadly surrounds using mixed-methods designs and implementation science for HIV- and substance misuse prevention among sexual minority men (SMM), marginalized substance-using populations, male couples, and young SMM and transgender people in the U.S. Dr. Lee’s current research aims to understand social-contextual factors relevant to being a dual minority (i.e., racial/ethnic minority and sexual minority) and its relationship with HIV-related outcomes, such as substance use, mental health, and sexual risk, among culturally and racially diverse sexual minority men. The overall objective of her research program is to incorporate an implementation science framework to provide a basis for the development of culturally congruent HIV- and substance misuse prevention and care as well as mental health wellbeing among racially diverse sexual minority men.
Dr. Lee’s teaching focuses on cultural diversity in behavioral health and applied mixed-methods research.
